Hailing from Delaware, Jeff Amurao picked up tennis after following his dad and big brother to the courts. He became a top-flight USTA junior and the No. 1 singles player at Archmere Academy. Even then, he had a sense of a potential future in coaching as he helped out with local youth and adult tennis programs. After playing tennis for and graduating from NCAA Division I Georgetown University, Jeff worked in the photography industry. He committed to tennis full time as a private instructor and coach at several New York City clubs and schools. He was the general director and head of high performance at Brooklyn’s McCarren Tennis Center before joining the Poly Athletics Department in 2020. Jeff made an immediate impact with the tennis program during his first preseason with the teams. In addition to overseeing Poly’s tennis program, in 2023, he became a Physical Education faculty member. “I’m grateful to be part of the Poly family and I look forward to continuing to work with our student-athletes,” he says.
